The Good Way wine comes from a family vineyard called Arapai, which translates to “good way”. The name speaks to the journey once used on New Zealands first sheep station to move stock from land to coast, passing through what is now the vineyard. Good Way also speaks to how Hayley and Anton care for the land with a commitment to growing grapes and making wine, the good way.
We designed a minimal, refined wrap around label design featuring a stylised, textural and intimate illustration of the land that provides the backbone for the structured wines. We crafted the layers of hills behind the vines through various hand drawn shapes, reversing the vineyard house out of a solid black shape. Then in the foreground we feature hand crafted, organic style lines to simply illustrate the vine rows. The angle of these rows give the illustration perspective and depth. Making the land the feature of this label ensures the brand showcases the important and unique relationship that the vines have with their surroundings. The deep, dry soils are at the heart of the wines creating a sense of place through the smells and tastes of Arapai.
To elevate the labels we incorporated a sculptured emboss which gives the labels a premium, tactile quality.
The logo has been minimally crafted to create a modern yet classic and elegant logo. We designed a stylised star to replace the crossbar of the A to reinforce ‘the good way’ and navigating the night skies to traverse the land to the coast.
We placed The and Arapai Vineyard small to ensure Good Way stands out, while Arapai Vineyard helps define the vineyards place in the world and links to the illustration on the label. The logo feels beautifully considered, crafted and premium.
On one of the sides of the label we use a supporting icon stack brand mark which is a visual interpretation of the translation of Arapai, referring to the good way and how people use to navigate the land to the coast. We start with a simple star as voyagers used the night sky to navigate. Then a sun, as this also provides a guide for basic compass direction as well as the sun in Martinborough playing a vital role in grape growing, helping create the vibrant flavours and aromas. Finally we have an icon of the land, representing the unique terroir of Arapai.
We then used this icon stack as the feature of the Sparkling Rose can design. We placed the logo vertically beside the icon stack, using a stunning metallic rose gold colour to speak to the wine while adding a refined elegance to the minimal white can. The clean simplicity of white connects to the family of white wine labels as well as contrasting with the warm shimmer or rose gold, creating a balanced look of modern luxury.
We developed branding and packaging including wine bottle and can label design.
