Traditionally a mason is a person who is skilled at making things or building things with stone. In this case Mason offers premium wine made with skill, care and blood sweat and tears.
Paul Mason is a well respected winemaker in Martinborough. Paul and his wife Amy brought a neglected block of land that they lovingly resurrected to create their own Pinot Noir and Rose under the new brand Mason. The name obviously represents them, being their family name but also speaks to Masonry, the art and craft of fabricating in stone, clay, brick or concrete. This speaks to the craft they put into resurrecting the site, caring for the land, vines and wine.
We designed a classic, simple, clean, unfussy label that immediately feels premium to suit the quality Martinborough wine. The stunning blind emboss feels tactile and beautifully crafted and considered as it speaks to the craft they put into resurrecting the site, caring for the land and vines and wine. The emboss makes the label feel high quality in a soft, simple way, perfectly capturing Paul modesty.
We placed Mason large in the centre of the label to give it presence even though it isn’t printed. The logo uses a classic condensed sans serif font and crafted a few elements to reflect how they resurrected and crafted the site.
We selected a burnt orange for the Pinot Noir and a dark charcoal black for the Rose. Burnt orange evokes feelings of warmth, comfort and happiness and looks striking on the dark Pinot Noir bottle. The dark charcoal is unexpected as not usually related to rose labels which gives the brand an instant point of difference. Together they feel like they are earthy, hardworking colours that perfectly suit Mason.
The labels are bold, subtle and ballsy. The bold colours capture attention. The blind emboss is subtle and the approach of not printing the brand name is ballsy. In plays on intrigue as the initial appliance of no brand draws the viewer in. As they get closer you see the logo in various lights and the tactile feel as viewers hold the bottle perfectly captures this exquisite wine.
We developed branding and packaging wine labels.
